Practical progress. Proven solutions.

At GRP Solutions, sustainability is about delivering real, workable change for the composites industry. We focus on reducing environmental impact through responsible operations, innovative recycling initiatives and, crucially, by supplying products that help our customers work more sustainably without compromising performance. We work closely with world-class suppliers, including ALTA Performance Materials, to deliver recycled, bio-based and lower-impact material solutions to market. Our role is to make sustainability accessible, practical and commercially viable for our customers.

The video below gives a closer look at how sustainability forms part of our commitment to doing the right thing, and how we are working with partners and customers to help drive positive change across the composites industry.

Leading with Recycled Materials

A major focus of our sustainability programme is supporting the shift away from virgin raw materials and towards recycled alternatives. One of the most impactful ways we support a circular economy is through the supply of recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) resins, manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. Recycled PET resins enable high-performance composite applications while reducing reliance on virgin raw materials:
  • Recycled content helps divert plastic bottles from landfill and the ocean.
  • Lower environmental impact compared to traditional virgin resin systems.
  • Suitable for a wide range of composite manufacturing processes.
  • By promoting recycled PET solutions, we help customers make measurable improvements to the sustainability of their finished products.

Safer, More Sustainable Working Practices – EasyClean

Sustainability is not only about materials - it is also about how composites are manufactured. We actively promote EasyClean as a safer, more sustainable alternative to acetone for cleaning tools, equipment and surfaces. EasyClean offers clear environmental and health benefits:
    • Reduced VOC emissions compared to acetone.
    • Safer for operators, with lower health risks.
    • Reusable and longer-lasting, reducing overall solvent consumption.
    • Effective cleaning performance without aggressive handling requirements.
By encouraging safer cleaning solutions, we help customers reduce risk on the shop floor while also improving their environmental performance.

    Driving Innovation in Composite Recycling

Alongside the products we supply, GRP Solutions actively supports innovation that tackles one of the composites industry’s biggest sustainability challenges: composite waste. Our Managing Director, Brian Harpur, has worked closely for several years with the University of Strathclyde and industry partners to advance a breakthrough process that separates glass fibre from resin. This enables recovered glass fibre to be reprocessed and reused within
the composites industry – a critical step as UK composite waste already exceeds 100,000 tonnes per year. GRP Solutions is proud to be a consortium partner in a £2 million pilot project to commercialise this technology, supported by Innovate UK and industry stakeholders. We are also donating PET resin for testing as part of the programme.

    ISO 14001 – Environmental Management

In July 2025, GRP Solutions achieved ISO 14001 certification, the internationally recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems, demonstrating our structured approach to managing environmental impact. Under our ISO 14001 framework, we:
    • Identify and monitor environmental impacts
    • Set objectives to drive continual improvement
    • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation
Our ISO 14001 certification sits alongside our ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ensuring sustainability is managed with the same rigour as quality across the business.
